About Tripura

Situated on northeast side of India, this is a small yet very attractive state. Tripura is full of natural beauty and also having rich culture. Basically this state is surrounded by beautiful lush green mountains and dense forests but lots of temples and palaces are also here, which are live witness of proud culture of Tripura state. Other attractions of Tripura are dense wildlife sanctuaries, scenic green valleys and beautiful and sparkling lakes etc.Festivals of Tripura are a big attraction among tourists from all over. You can be a part of it any time as lots of festivals celebrated by locals throughput the year. The festivals are so colourful and full of music and dance so do not miss it and feel Tripura is real meaning with these celebrations.This place is basically full of tribal but big part of total population belongs from Bengali community too. Agartala is capital of Tripura state and also a popular hill station. This state is perfect for those who want eco-tourism.

Getting There

There is a domestic airport which is situated in Agartala. You can get flights for Kolkata and Guwahati. IF you are coming from Delhi then take flight to Kolkata then to Agartala. Few airports are also here including Kailashsahar, Khowai and Kamalpur but Agratala is good and safe one. Cabs etc. are available here but pre booking will be better option. Kumarghat is the nearest railway station from Agartala. Distance of this railway station from capital is 140 km. Other major places are well connected by train. You can get cabs and taxis on railway stations. Be careful if you are coming by train on this station as this is not very safe area as this area is insurgency prone so you must collect current information about the place before plan your trip.Travelling by buses is the safe idea in general. This state is connected well be other nearby states by road and lots of buses are available for Agartala on good fare. Try to travel in daylight to make you safe. We will not recommend you to drive your own car here because of safety reasons. Buses are safer.

By Train

Kumarghat is the nearest railway station from Agartala. Distance of this railway station from capital is 140 km. Other major places are well connected by train. You can get cabs and taxis on railway stations. Be careful if you are coming by train on this station as this is not very safe area as this area is insurgency prone so you must collect current information about the place before plan your trip

By Road

Travelling by buses is the safe idea in general. This state is connected well be other nearby states by road and lots of buses are available for Agartala on good fare. Try to travel in daylight to make you safe. We will not recommend you to drive your own car here because of safety reasons. Buses are safer.

By Air

Visit and Do

Do not underestimate the beauty of Tripura as this place is one of the most beautiful states of India. Huge ranges of mountains which are completely green with big and quite valleys are enough to hold your breath. Hill stations of this state are full of forests, free flowing falls and glittering lakes. To see the natural beauty on its fullest come right after rains i.e. October month.Agartala is the best hill station to see.Another attraction of this place is palaces. Sometimes you will feel like you are in Jaipur. These huge palaces are the best example of beautiful and stunning architecture. Do not miss Ujjayanta palace which is situated in Agartala. Museums, gardens and other related places are also worth to see. Sundari temple, Neermahal, Jagannath Temple and Chaturdasha Devata Temple are other places to see.Sipahijala sanctuary is also a beautiful place to go. This is basically a botanical garden and having wild animals too. This can be a kind of adventurous travelling and will be full of fun. Ambassa and Unakoti are the famous places of this state too.Boating, trekking and rock climbing are the activities you can do. Take a registered guide or local for right and safe activities.You can shop for cotton fabrics which are made by locals and these are hand woven. The quality of fabrics will be excellent and you can get lots of designs and colours. Other things to pick are wooden artefacts and handicrafts which are available on main markets. Bargaining is must for street shopping.

Accommodation

As this is a little state, there is not much options are available for staying. The capital Agartala is capable to give all kind of facilities. There are few good hotels are available with restaurants. Some mid-range and cheap hotels are also available. In fact you can get hotels on comparatively less tariff.On religious places cheap hotels and dharamshalas are available. You can get guest houses too. Government guest houses are safer place but advance booking is must.

Food

In capital city you can get all general food like all Indian food, veg food and Chinese food on good price. Local dishes are based on fish and other sea food. Generally Tripura is full of Bengalis so Bengali food is easily available here.
